Strike- Over

Six days, the SEPTA/ TWU Local 234 strike lasted. One less day than the one in 2005.

The strike ended in the wee morning hours of Monday, November 9, 2009. Starting 4:00AM today, service is gradually starting again, as my school's website posted.

Well, now I can get to and from school without bothering anyone for a ride. :D

Strike

So... how about that SEPTA strike?

It began at 3:00AM this morning and it is unknown when it will end. Governor Rendell convinced SEPTA/ TWU Local 234 to refrain from striking during the World Series game as the "national spotlight" is on Philly and the strike would "tarnish the city's reputation."

Now that they are on strike, how am I suppose to get home from school? I could easily ask my dad or a friend who's getting a ride to send me to school in the morning. Of course, I have the option of walking five miles home too. It will only take two hours. (Then again, back in the old old days people had no other choice than to walk to and from school, so why can't I?) Another option is asking Amy for a ride, but her car is tiny and a bunch of us would be jammed into it. One way or another I will have/ find someway to get home.

Happy All Hallows' Eve!

31st October 2009

A rainy Halloween it was today.

We went to the farther Northeast to trick or treat, but we didn't start until late. Yun couldn't get the car until later (around 7-8) and when we got to Anthony's house it was pouring/ raining quite a bit. So, we actually started going around the neighborhood at maybe... the later half of the 8th hour. We were the only ones. The rain totally killed it. Only a few people opened their doors. Most of the time we were faced with a non responsive door. Maybe because the game was on (World series game) or they were at the game. Also, there was this one guy that was so mean. We knocked/ rang the bell, whichever, and after he opened the door he was like, "It's ten o' clock. What's the wrong with you." Then he just turned away and shut the door. He could have been nicer. He definitely ruined our mood.

Lina and me were basically the only ones trick or treating because we were actually in a getup. Well, Lina was more than I was. I didn't actually have a costume, so I just used makeup to try to look like a doll. A Jen Doll. Lol. The guys just didn't have a costume so they just accompanied us. And Katherine didn't wear my cat ears that I brought for her. :(

I wanted to be Alice in Wonderland, but I don't have money to buy a costume!!! My mom's not going to buy a fifty dollar costume for me because she thinks I'm too old to do this stuff and it's expensive. Not having a job does not help either. Then again, this year there were quite a few people dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters in school. I heard that there were three Alices. Maybe next year I will buy fabric and make my own simple version of Alice if I still want to be her. That is if I can actually sew fabricate together without making the line crooked.

Well, I hope everyone had a happy Halloween!

Wong Fu Productions :D

First and foremost, Happy Birthday to Phil! He spent his birthday with us Philadelphians on this wonderful fall evening. Thank you :D

This evening, Eva and I had the pleasure of meeting the masterminds of Wong Fu Productions. The event was held at the University of Pennsylvania in the the Houston Hall/ Hall of Flags at 7:00PM. They talked about Wong Fu and some history. We also, got the opportunity to see exclusive previews which will not be up on their Youtube account for a while. Great stuff *thumbs up*.

The mics didn't seem to want to work properly today. One of them kept making sounds when it was moved around and the other one died part way through the speaking. I think there was another one, but that one didn't work from the beginning. Other than that, they seem to be great people. They're just like you and me. Yeah, they're super cool and have a billion fans out in the world, but they're human beings. Like they said, they aren't great public speakers, but they were fine.

One thing I am disappointed about is my lack of speaking at the end for the "meet and greet". I wish I had good questions for them, but I take a while to think up things like good questions.

It's the same with on the spot responses for things I don't know about. *Cough, cough* For example, questions about government and politics. Which brings me to the topic of undone homework for Social Science. I have to do that take home exam!!! It's due tomorrow. D:

All in all, it was worth it to see Wong Fu. Their responses to the very astute and perceptive questions from a majority of the UPenn students, and their closing remarks were insightful. It's true, Asians aren't represented as much and there is talent in every one of us Asians. Of course there is talent in everyone in the world. And talent doesn't always have to be related to the artistic field.

Well~ I'm off to do Social Science, the most wonderful subject in school. :( [Sarcastic "Wizard of Oz" tune]

(I'll post some pics from the event soon, promise!)

This isn't healthy.

I wish I could get excited about homework as much as I do for other things.

As I was about to begin homework, I felt a slight jump in my chest. Excitement? Maybe it's because I'm expecting something. I just wish I could feel this longer... and maybe I can concentrate on one thing straight through to the end.

WHERE'S THE MOTIVATION?

You know, I used to be such a hard worker. Not just in school, but at home too. You know, doing chores and whatnot. There were times where I slacked, but not as much as I do now. I do not do any thing at all now until I feel the pressure. I am sure many others feel this way, but it bothers me that I do not try. Why is it so hard to get determined? Like, I say/ write I HAVE to do this or I HAVE to do that, but in the end I will be doing something other than what I am supposed to.

There is a "To Do List" that I write all the time. On a specific day I have to do this or that assignment. People look at it and they will be like, "Oh, you're so organized" and blah, blah. In reality, I do not do these tasks until the day before it is due or when someone cracks down on me to do it.

I know some people do not actually care about this stuff, but I do. I just don't care enough or have the motivation to actually get down to business. And it is something I have to change.

269 Museum Day

Museum day is where seniors go to a museum in Philadelphia so we do not disturb the underclassmen who are taking their PSATs. A lot of the seniors went to the Philadelphia Zoo or the Philadelphia Zoological Gardens as our school wants to call it (to make it sound educational or something).

I have not been to the zoo in years. Sixth grade was probably the last time I was there.

This morning I woke up at 6:55AM because we did not have to be at the zoo until 9:45AM. Surprisingly, it did not take much effort to wake up even though it is only an extra hour of sleep. I got ready and even had time to eat breakfast. The people who were driving picked up whoever they needed to pick up and all the cars met up at Cottman and Bustleton Avenues at 8:30AM so we could all drive there together. Some of us were late.... so we did not leave until 9:00 or so. We arrived at the zoo, walked around, looked at animals, and took some pictures. On our way back to the Northeast we took a wrong road and was lost for three minutes. We eventually got back on Route 1, but we lost the other people in the other car. Everyone got to the designated place in the end.

Also, it was Elmer's birthday today, so after the zoo we went bowling. Some of us bowled and some of us did not. We bowled and went to Checkers directly across from the bowling place to get food and snuck it back into the bowling alley. Later we brought in the cake that Lina, Katherine, Amy, Yun and I made last night and sung "Happy Birthday." We ate cake and they bowled some more. Then we all went home. Unfortunately with a few annoyances due to a certain someone that said they were hungry and wanted to go someplace to eat "real food." Though Checkers is not real food, couldn't you just stick to it for now because we all don't want to go since most of us ate already. If this was all said out loud, hissy fits would have ensued, so we try to avoid it. The day ended at that.
